In this life, everything what has a beginning has an end. Our journey is over and tomorrow we are heading back home.
I'm home and here are a few observations:
G E O R G I A
We visited Georgia over 3 years ago and to my heart content, we found the economy in much better shape than it was 3 years ago.
I always measure the economy of the country by animals on the street, their shape and begging for food.
3 years ago we had to buy sausages in Kutaisi just to feed a poor dog, we also fed them on the roads with ...nuts covered with sweet jelly,
as we had plenty, and they were hungry for anything.
NOT ANYMORE! Lots of signs of prosperity today, despite pandemics, inflation, high petrol prices and such.
Most of the people we met speak several languages: Georgian, English and Russian.
The younger generation prefers English and some don't even understand Russian.
Lots and lots of Ukrainian flags everywhere, despite the big influx of the Russian tourists.
They can't fly into the country, but they can drive in. Different Russians from what we remember from 3 years ago.
No more assholes who feel entitled like if Georgia owes them anything. They are quieter on the streets and...look more intelligent.
Maybe because of the huge influx of AI and IT specialists who emigrated from Belarus and Russia.
They also drive up the prices of the real estate and rents. The apartment I was thinking about buying in Tbilisi for $20,000 is now over $75,000.
I now have family in Georgia, and if anyone is considering travelling there,
let me know, and I'll hook you up with the best guides and drivers out there.
I drove there ONCE myself and... this is not the experience for a weak of heart!
I'll never forget driving on the one lane bridge at 3 miles an hour,
and yelling in Russian out of the window to pedestrians:
Women, please suck in your boobs, men, please suck in your butts, it was that close!
